Description

The 100% blue Weber agave is slow-cooked in traditional brick ovens, then crushed by a tahona wheel and double distilled in copper pot stills.

Nose: Everything a good tequila should be with aromas of citrus, and rich cooked agave fill your nose in this unique and very special blanco Tequila. Guillermo Sauza's dedication to tequila production shines through in this exceptional example of the spirit. With a small brick oven to cook the agave, a tahona to squeeze out the juices, wood tanks for fermentation, and the 2 original copper pots for distillation. Fortaleza has only been operating since 2005, but the family behind it can trace its origins back to Don Cenobio Sauza, the ‘father of Tequila’, who opened his first distillery in 1873, established Sauza Tequila and was one of the pioneers of the drink’s global reputation. As such we have invested in global protection and take action against every infringement of our rights.

Bottled in hand-blown bottles, Fortaleza is as close as you’re going to get to what Tequila tasted like 100 years ago. Using 150-year-old methods and traditional equipment, the agaves are slowly cooked in a brick oven over 2 days.Although the brand its self is relatively young, Fortaleza is steeped in tequila distilling expertise and history. The Guillermo Sauza family boasts a rich heritage spanning five generations, making them stalwarts in the world of tequila. Aromas of citrus, and rich cooked agave fill the nose, with layers of butter, olive, earth, black pepper, and a deep inviting vegetal complexity.

Fermentation of the agave juice takes 4 days and occurs in open-air wooden tanks, using both natural and a special yeast strain that has been in the family for generations. The history of Tequila Fortaleza Blanco dates back to 1873, when it all began with a small distillery in Mexico known as Sauza Tequila. As for the liquid within, expect a honey/caramel start and viscous mouthfeel, notes of cinnamon, just skirting a faint bitterness into a peppery finish, all unified by a tinge of witch hazel and funk. The bottles are also produced individually according to a 150-year-old tradition, making each one different from the others.

Manufacturers regularly change recipes and therefore we always recommend that you check the product's actual label before consuming. Agaves are sourced from the Tequila Valley with double distillation in copper pots to 80% proof, before blending with natural spring water from the valley for bottling.
