Yet, I knew it would be a daunting ask - I’d effectively be spending the next few weeks re-teaching myself how to type, something I’ve been doing effectively my whole life. I have never used Brown switches in my life, but I have used Kailh Red, MX Red Silent, and MX Clear. It's actually entirely objective, in terms of the amount of tension you need to hold in the muscles connected to your shoulders, elbows, and wrists. Having been an Advantage user now for a decade, having the thumb clusters is certainly an upgrade over standard keyboards, but they also feel like they could use some design attention. are relocated to be accessible near the lower center of the keyboard, to take advantage of your thumb’s dexterity, especially compared to where they normally go in keyboards where your pinky has to stretch to hit those keys.

It took about 10 months, but Drop and Kinesis finally shipped their new Kinesis Advantage360 1 Professional keyboard over late September. That way, I can tap any output number by holding down the F key and pressing any of the keypad keys on my right keyboard halve. Once your are used to the column stagger, key wells, and thumb keys of the Advantage, there is not really a way back. It’s usually possible to remedy with a power cycle (always do the left slightly before the right) but it is still pretty annoying. To Kinesis’s credit, their Advantage keyboards have always been laid out in ortholinear—essentially, a grid—fashion, and their products have had the Dvorak layout as an alternative to QWERTY. I can use the keyboard in a variety of different positions (including lying down), and my wrists never come in at a strange angle.

The actual ZKM software problems you mentioned should be hopefully fixable for them over time with the help of their community. I’ve been alternating days on the 360 and the Moonlander boards, and find the flatter profile of the Moonlander thumb area seems to suit me better. I'm looking forward to getting my glove80 in the next month or two, which supports multiple devices via Bluetooth or one device via USB.The thumb clusters include frequently-used keys such as Enter, Space, Backspace, and Delete to redistribute workload away from the weaker and overused little fingers to stronger thumbs. In my case, I understand the benefits of layers, and it's actually the thing I miss the most on my Keychron K2, which I otherwise enjoy, and is the reason I'm eyeing the newer QMK-based models. It has true tenting, and the concave nature of the pieces means you can comfortably rest your palms on the outside and only move your fingers. The regular version of the Advantage360 uses the SmartSet Engine, which I think is the same firmware setup as the Advantage2. To be honest, no keyboard matches the comfort of my macbook with the keyboard being under the level of the palms.
